Nufonix sells advanced music for advanced people
. Maybe this is another way to say they have the best selection of lounge and downtempo music I've come across this far. Nufonix has about 100 labels, including the Italian lounge experts IRMA Records.
Sales are in LAME encoded MP3 format averaging at 192 Kbps
, whatever that means. I guess it's good enough in any case.
| Format | Quality | Price |
|---|---|---|
| MP3 | MP3 VBR | $0.98 – $1.25 |
The help page says Nufonix uses RealAudio previews but I only found downloadable low quality MP3 previews of varying lengths.
The site is easy to use, and design is bright, nice and minimal. Maybe too minimal at times as they could highlight important parts of the screen better. Some details would need more thought as well; the front page lists featured labels with yellow Listen buttons and I was wondering how do I easily get to the labels' pages without listening to their music. But guess what — you get there by pressing the Listen button... I'm sorry but in my dictionary "listen" does not equal "go to label track listing". And when you get to the listings page, the field labels (Artist, Label, Duration, etc) look more like buttons than the actual Preview and Add buttons do. Tiny things, but things that could be improved on. Help is in the right place, prominent in the main navigation.
The only thing missing was background information about the site; who's behind it, when they started, etc. Not that it would make any difference when you're enjoying their music.
