[...] First impressions: I wonder if I could somehow change my Jaiku status from the iChat menu. Technically, I guess it would be possible for Jaiku to monitor the AIM status of my account. Would be a convenient addition — my experience shows that long term (ie. after the wow wears off), setting presence status in two apps is too much. Hence I’m using a Jabber hack to enable messaging with my MSN contacts through iChat. [...]

[...] After my rant about web 2.0 timesheet apps Richard White sent me a link to his SlimTimer. I bet it’s not for everyone, especially old-school timesheet lovers could find it uneasy. But for someone like me, who juggles multiple things all the time (continuous partial attention, anyone?) the time tracking feature seems ingenious. Hopefully it’s not just the initial wow.

[...] And guess what? Clicktime doesn’t carry web 2.0 baggage. It’s interface is spartan, with only the essential elements tightly laid out. No big fonts, no tiny pixel fonts either, although It’s been around since 1997 (almost ten years!). Yes, a little AJAX goodness wouldn’t hurt, but neither does the lack of it. They realize a timesheet application is about data, and a data-intensive application has different design criteria than an application made only to wow the TechCrunch crowd. [...]

[...] Niko Nyman is “tired of Wow” in mobile design. “Wow is short-lived. It’s a selling point, not an usability argument… But my gut feeling tells me Wow fares well in short-term user testing. If the wow is in place, a week or two of testing easily confirms that people are enthusiastic about a product. In a longer test term, let’s say six months, the wow wears off. The early enthusiasm over a cool new toy disappears when you actually need to use it for other than showing off to your friends.” [...]

[...] Tired of Wow Niko Nyman is tired of wow. I’ve been thinking about ‘wow’ in design a bit lately… this is a bit different to what i’ve been thinking but his point about testing over time yielding different results is a good one.
