We are the winners 01:32 on Sunday
Honestly, I never thought I would see the day my home country “zero poeng” Finland would win the Eurovision song contest. But it happened, with the highest score ever and with an unlikely candidate, Lordi. Check out the Lordi video from the semi-finals.
The competition was as tacky as always, but we had a blast watching the show with a bunch of friends, keeping the neighbours well awake and aware of the points situation with our cheering. Before we would have been impressed with someone giving Finland even two points, but now at the end of the show 8 points was “just ok”.
And the cheering is going on around Helsinki, with screams and singing sounding off the streets through my open window. Truly unlikely and unbelievably fun.
(I’ll probably continue on the Eurovision theme with another post later on…)
Unofficial Finland promo picture.
Update: French news agency AFP claims millions of Finns were ashamed to have Lordi represent Finland in Eurovision contest
. Pretty credible, taking that there are just over 5 million of us…
