Wow Niko, that was a long one... rolling up sleeves...

Agree that the easiest way out for a small start-up is to use the excellent web apps you mention!

Agree with Thomas that the easist way out for big corporations is to use the pre-made and best practices enterprise systems!

As I say on the thingamy web site - "It [thingamy] requires hard work, creativity, rethinking of business models and a strong stomach, just like business should be. It can be frustrating."

Now why do I say that? That's surely counter to what a customer wants, does definitely not sound like "makes your life easier"... at least that would be the initial reaction.

Because business changes - if you do not change it, somebody will change it for you - just like in the rest of nature. Flowers grow, blossom and then wither away.

"Your" current web app business might be a huge success, and your laser sharp focus on innovating web apps seems right.

But remember that it's easy today to start a new business - and suddenly somebody comes up with a different value proposition for your customer - then your focus on the "product" will be moot.

That's when being business-model-agile becomes important - having control over your business model - focus on business model innovation... preferably early enough.

And that is the core of the thingamy - and I would never promise any simple life using it - quite on the contrary :)

P.S. Is IBM still doing "Business machines"? How long was Google in the "search" business... three minutes? Are banks still in the "deposit & loans" business? Etc.
